News School/Mosque Ford Square Planning Granted | 25 march 2014

Webb Gray are delighted to announce planning permission has successfully been granted on an extension of the Esha' Atul Islamic Mosque and school on Damien Street in London. Plans were submitted by Bamfords and Webb Gray earlier this year and have been successfully deemed viable and appropriate for construction in the area. The design approach for the Mosque is to implement a design that will represent a conservative yet contemporary extension to an existing building borrowing gentle influence from Islamic architecture whilst being sympathetic to existing surroundings. The existing building is a 3 storey property above ground and existing basement retained below. The extension will match and will link with existing finished floor levels and also incorporates a further fourth light-weight storey over both new and existing. The height of this matches the height of adjacent properties.

The extension will provide a new ladies prayer hall, additional male prayer space and additional/ improved teaching facilities. This extension will be constructed from contrasting masonry panels with aluminum curtain wall glazing. The top floor will be heavily glazed with zinc rolled cladding and feature moveable vertical sun louvers allowing the occupants to adjust daylight levels and avoid excessive solar heat gain in the summer months. The application also includes for alterations and improvements to the existing factory windows, with a mixture of smaller modules windows and applied colored renders.
