Webb Gray can announce that construction will soon begin on a £30 million pound industrial warehouse for Poundland, Europe’s largest single price general merchandise discount retailer. Forward funded by Standard Life Investments, the proposed 335,275 sqft facility situated off the M6 near Wigan will provide a warehouse that will form Poundland’s North West regional hub and will see the creation of 800 jobs locally. Working with developer Stoford, work is expected to begin on site very soon with anticipated completion set for June 2016.
Webb Gray have worked closely with Poundland in order to design and develop a high quality facility that not only caters to Poundland’s requirements as a sector leading company but also has minimum impact on the surrounding area and environment. The warehouse therefore subtly features the branding requirements of Poundland but also sits comfortably within its site and is to regenerate an area that had previously lay vacant. Its site location is perfectly suited to serve all of Poundland’s stores across the North West which includes both Manchester and Liverpool, sitting perfectly between the two.
Poundland’s Head of Portfolio Management Ben Wall, said: “Poundland continues to grow its estate rapidly with 60 new stores acquired in 2014/2015 and a further 60 new stores planned for 2015/2016. The new North West distribution centre will provide a ‘green’ high specification distribution hub for the North and ensure that as the store portfolio grows we can continue to deliver amazing value to our customers every day. The expansion of our existing warehouse space follows an extensive search. We are extremely pleased that the development of our new North West Regional Distribution Centre is in Wigan. As we continue to increase our store portfolio we will look to further expand our warehouse space in the future
