As 2013 came to a close, Webb Gray are pleased to announce construction work on a new probation facility followed suit and came to a stand. The £1.3 million centre will open its doors in January 2014 to prohibition workers from across the Black Country. Moving from offices in Stourbridge, Netherton and Lyle to Hope House on Castlegate Business Park, Dudley will see the facility housing workers under oneroof for the first time and provide new offices, group support rooms and rehabilitationrooms. The centre has been designed to devote its services to members of the public who are required to attend regular appointments as part of their community orderwhilst also offer debt advice and individual rehabilitation sessions. Adrian McNulty, head of Dudley Probation said how Hope House would "improve services and allow thetrust to sell old and inefficient buildings" and he added how "the move will allow staff to offer offenders group rehabilitation classes for the first time where they will take part in role-play sessions exploring why people re-offend."
Castlegate Business Park was seen as the ideal site for construction of the new Probation facility as it provides a strategic location with excellent transport links from which the building can offer the operations and services. As one ofthe final buildings to be delivered as part of the Caslegate Business Park, Webb Gray sought to develop a building that would follow the established architectural quality and style of the development as a whole. As such, Webb Gray have designed a building that utilizes a simple palette of high quality and durable established materials from which the building will offer longevity and help reinforce Castlegate as an exemplar business park. The facility is a two storey building with interview and group meeting rooms being found on the ground floor, and the open plan office space situated on the first floor. An efficient grid informs the architectural language of all facades whilst the design focal point of a ‘gull wing’ roof forms the framework from which the buildings envelope is apparent. Consistency in structure and joints also provides articulation and depth to an otherwise, efficiently engineered façade. Webb Gray has also taken care inthe specification of materials so the building will age well with weathering.
